Dear friends,
I just needed to share with you about our trip to Laredo, Trujillo.
We have had such a great time with our host family - Nancy & Javier Soriano- and sharing with the people in Nueva Barraza in Laredo.
As you know it is a very poor part of the city and houses are very rural, some made of adobe bricks (sun dried clay) and many do not have sewers or running water yet!
We have found a place with proper flooring and nice clean walls and as you can see the team of young people that came with us - Elevate from Potential Church- Lima Campus, did a great job decorating the walls, preparing the premises, entertaining the kids with dances and sharing the Gospel! We had Nataly with us who is a professional childrens worker and she was the one that arranged and organized the place!
We had received some clothes and we were thinking of donating it to the people, but we want to teach them to give of whatever little they have and to cooperate in any way they can. So we decided that we would sell the clothes at a very cheap price 2, 4 and 6 soles. The people could then buy clothes and other bigger toys for a small amount and cooperate with the Wawa Wasi Samuelito. with this money we bought potties, spoons, small plastic containers, a medicine cabinet with all the necessary first aid according a list given by the authorities, mosquito nets, towels and other stuff that was needed to be able to start running!
For the inaguration ceremony we had the Mayor of the city, a lady who representated the authorities of the area and a representative of the Ministry for Women's Causes (Ministerio de la Mujer) to see that the premises comply with their rules. The lady form the ministry was so happy and said the kids that were going to take part on the project were lucky. The lady who represented the region said that she wanted her baby to come as she thought it was a great place!
Well we have worked hard towards this day and we have received so much help from you guys; thaks to the sponsors, thanks to the people that donated clothes, thanks to the people that took part in the raffle, thanks to the Elevate team, thanks to each one of you that have us in your prayers....now we have 8 more kids to pray and thank for!
I had the opportunity to share with the mothers and the authorities and asked their help so we together can work for a more dignified life for their kids!
The work is only starting and I am sure we will find many challenges on our way, but I know one thing that makes me look forward: it is not me doing the job, it is God doing His will thorugh my life and your life, if we let Him!
Praise be to God!
