Dear friends,
God made it possible for us to visit some good friends in Trujillo, Helmi & Felipe Castro. Trujillo is the third largest city in Peru and has aproximately 820,000 inhabitants. Through them we met Nancy Castillo. She and her husband, Javier, work in the Laredo district (half an hour from Trujillo city). Here they have rented two rooms where they receive aproximately 25 kids in the mornings. They help the children with their homework and give them lunch before the children leave to go to school in the afternoon. In the national schools in Peru the children go to school either in the morning or in the afternoon.
The vision of their work is that children need to be fed so they can learn. They also teach them hygiene, values of life and about God.
The rent for this place is S/. 90 (about US $ 35,) electricity and water is included in the price. The couple receive S/. 170 (about US $ 65) per month for food from friends and Nancy has to make this money last for food for all the kids for approximately 20 days!
As you can see in the pictures here and in our facebook page they need our help to improve their conditions. They need a new fridge, storage place for food, a new tube for the cooker as the one they have is old and dangerous, new towels and a proper tank for water. (There is no running water in the building.) In addition they could use more support to provide food for the children in this poor district.
The future plan for the place is to grow the ministry and give food and help to children both in the morning and in the afternoon, so they need at least one more person to help.
This couple and their two kids live on the gifts people give them and do not receive a proper salary or have health insurance of any kind. Their means of transportation is a motorcycle.
