Days pass quickly and we are already writing October the 4th. Yesterday, I even saw the first Christmas decorations in the shops!!!
Here in Peru we are looking forward to summer and vacation time. But before that we still have some projects to finish.
As you know 2011 so far has had us busy working on a major restoration of the boys home in La Victoria. It is now a very different place from what it was when we made it our next project. Needless to say, the boys are very happy to have much nicer home to live in. The change of atmosphere in the home together with the talks with the psychologist and the karate lessos they are receiving has meant so much for the boys who live there and their selfsteem has been greatly improved.
Still, we see the need to construct a workshop on the roof of the house to give them the possibility of learning various handcrafts, so they can sell some of their products and save for the day they have to leave the home. This way they can have the money to buy the most essential things like a bed and a mattress. Also, as some of them do not have the abilities to pursue further education, for them we want to make it possible to experience different crafts so they can find a suitable skill. The budget for this construction is set at 6000 US $, not including tools or materials for the crafts.
Besides that we also want to paint the girls home in La Victoria. The ceilings and walls need a new coat of paint. Apart from that, we need some extra new mattresses, 3 ventilators installed into the bathrooms where there currently is no ventilation at all and other minor repairs in most of the bathrooms. These are our goals for 2011.
Sum total we probably need to collect around 10.000 US $ to finish our goals for this year.
